ordinarie paperie is a small art and stationery shop that aims to be modern yet reminiscent of vintage botanicals and visits to dimly lit bookstores. When ordinarie paperie was still in pre-launch phase, I was tasked with helping craft a cohesive brand. We ultimately landed on a clean postal stamp design that brings all the attention to the shop’s name and contact information.

Style and Font

During the initial theme exploration phase, we considered potential motifs, such as:

  • nature and plantlife

  • library books and typewriter text

  • handwritten letters and fountain pen script

  • light academia, dark academia

Wanting to find a refined version of old-style typefaces that was readily available, we ultimately settled on Baskerville as the main font. As a secondary font, Avenir served as a refreshing way to link the old world theme with a modern audience.

A muted, earthy palette evokes a calm feeling in the viewer, reminiscent of the warm tones of wooden bookshelves found in older libraries. A complementary dark green offers interesting contrast that draws the viewer’s attention while not detracting from the naturelike theme.

Design and Sizing

The client wanted an memorable yet understated business card design that represented their brand well. Taking advantage of the rectangular shape of common business cards, we chose to go with a postal stamp design.

After exploring several layout options available through various printing presses, we went with a European sized business card design to better fit the postal stamp theme, as these are taller and less wide compared to a standard US business card.
